Get in those trenches!
*DISCLAIMER* Without sounding like an Infomercial or an Evangelist, I am going to try and sell you on something here for a sec. I feel that it’s my duty to pass this on. Bear with me. And I apologize in advance for any corny clichés that may have found their way in.
“I really should start writing that comic script… I’ll start tomorrow.” Does that sound familiar?
If it does, I’ve got some good news for you and I’ve got some bad news. Ok, bad news first: I’m afraid that you are suffering from a disease known as Resistance.
Now for the good news: This disease has a cure and with a little help, you can beat this life-sucking, disabling, bastard.
So, here’s what I mean by “a little help”. I just read this book by Steven Pressfield called The War of Art. Steven Pressfield is an author who is known for his historical military novels set in ancient Greece and Rome. His background comes through as he refers to “Resistance” as the enemy and arms the reader with strategical tactics to win this battle. The battle which I am referring to is the internal struggle that we all face when we try to do something productive. It’s like procrastination, but it goes deeper than that. It’s not something that you simply choose not to do; it’s a real barrier that is physically, emotionally and mentally blocking you from doing the thing you love most.
The thing that I found most helpful about this book is that it gives your enemy a face. You can’t win if you don’t know what you’re fighting, and once you know, it’s that much easier to recognize it, call it out and take it on.

I am not a fan of “self-help” books, and I hate the word “inspire”, but if you’re still with me here: This book gave me the “self help” that I needed to “inspire” me to GET OFF MY ASS. If anyone reading this is currently experiencing this self-inflicted resistance I am speaking of, (you know who you are) READ THIS BOOK!
“But you don’t have to take my word for it.” As LeVar would say.
Don’t let yourself stand in the way of yourself. It is truly war and it should not be taken lightly.
So hunker down in those trenches, and I’ll see you there, comrade.
we all need a little motivation at some point in our lives, and yes even some “self-help.” I recently finished a book by this author about the wonderful and inspiring story of a little band of warriors called ……..the SPARTANS!
If reading their story doesn’t get you fired up about what you’d like to accomplish in your life then it’s time to lay it down.
Thanks, Emily.
Fight the good fight, Emily!
